Marigold

Process chain

Each year, over 800 hectares of land are dedicated to the cultivation of marigold flowers. The plantation and maintenance activities are supported by a team of 45 staff members.

Following harvest, the flowers are transported to the factory where they undergo a silaging process to ensure preservation. The preserved flowers are then processed into pellet form, which are subsequently sent for extraction to facilitate further production and processing of valuable compounds.

Carotenoids and Eye Health: Protecting Vision Naturally

Good vision is essential to quality of life, and most people hope to maintain clear eyesight throughout their lifetime. Alongside regular eye check-ups, a diet rich in carotenoids—the natural pigments that give fruits and vegetables their vibrant red, yellow, orange, and green colors—is crucial for supporting healthy eyes.

At the center of the retina lies the macula, a small but vital area responsible for sharp, central vision. The macula contains a high concentration of photoreceptor cells, making it the most visually sensitive part of the eye. It is also rich in three key carotenoids: lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin, collectively known as macular pigments.

These carotenoids are fat-soluble antioxidants that help protect eye cells from oxidative stress caused by free radicals. They also filter out harmful blue light, which is linked to digital eye strain and long-term damage to the retina. Lutein, in particular, is often referred to as “the eye vitamin” for its critical role in maintaining visual health.

In today’s digital age, people are spending more time in front of screens, which emit blue light that passes through the cornea and lens and reaches the retina. This prolonged exposure can lead to digital eye strain, causing symptoms like eye fatigue, dryness, irritation, and difficulty focusing. Although the blue light from screens is relatively low, its close proximity and long exposure time raise concerns about cumulative effects, especially on the retina.

As the global population ages and awareness of eye health grows, the market for eye health supplements—particularly those containing lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin—is expanding rapidly.

Protecting vision naturally through dietary carotenoids and managing screen time are essential strategies for maintaining lifelong eye health.

Cognitive functions (Brain Health)

Research has shown that lutein doesn’t just support eye health—it can also help improve memory and other aspects of brain function. When your eyes feel better, it’s easier to manage stress, and even your sleep quality can improve.

Skin Health (Cosmetic Benefits)

Extracts derived from marigold flowers, particularly those containing lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin, have emerged as valuable ingredients in the “beauty from within” category. Scientific research has consistently shown that lutein helps protect the skin from solar radiation-induced damage due to its antioxidant properties. Moreover, regular intake of lutein has been associated with improved skin hydration and elasticity, supporting a healthier and more youthful complexion.

We have successfully formulated and optimized these carotenoids for compatibility in a range of ingestible beauty formats, including functional beverages and beauty shots. This allows consumers to enjoy both the protective and nourishing benefits of marigold extracts as part of their daily skincare routine from the inside out.

Bone Health

Keeping bones strong is a key part of healthy aging. Regular intake of lutein has been linked to higher bone mineral density and a lower risk of bone loss, particularly in older adults. This suggests that lutein may help maintain bone strength and reduce the risk of osteoporosis over time.

Effects on Metabolic disorders

Lutein is also proposed in certain metabolic disorders. Specifically, its effects have been studied on lipid profile management. It is also known to improve insulin sensitivity.

Cardiovascular Health

A healthy heart relies, in part, on how the body handles inflammation. When inflammation gets out of control, it can damage the cardiovascular system over time. Lutein has shown promise in helping manage this process. Studies have found that lutein supplementation can lower levels of harmful inflammatory markers in the blood, while encouraging the release of anti-inflammatory compounds—helping to protect the heart and blood vessels.

Healthy Eyes
The role of Lutein &  Zeaxanthin

Everyone wishes to enjoy an excellent vision throughout their lifetime. Routine eye checkups and a diet rich in carotenoids are important for healthy eyes. Carotenoids are pigments that give vibrant red, orange, yellow and green colors to fruits and vegetables.

The macula is the pigmented area in the retina of the human eye. Since Macula has the highest concentration of photoreceptors in the retina; it produces the sharpest vision. Free Lutein, Zeaxanthin, and Meso Zeaxanthin concentrations are more in Macula and hence they are known as Macular Pigments.

Lutein and Zeaxanthin are generally fat-soluble carotenoids that function as anti-oxidants protecting cells from free radicals. About four decades of research establishes that Free Lutein, Zeaxanthin and Meso Zeaxanthin in macula filters shorter wavelength light ie blue light and prevents age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
